Technorati and TTLB Problems

Monday, January 16th, 2006

I have contacted Technorati and TTLB (The Truth Laid Bear) about irregularities in my statistics. I am wondering if anyone else has seen the same problems.

The problem with my Technorati account is that my “X links from X sites” has not changed in over a month for The Land of Ozz. The numbers do seem to be changing slightly for Caden’s Page. The Land of Ozz gets updated way more often than Caden’s Page. The Land of Ozz also has seen a fairly significant increase in traffic over the past two months. This new traffic has also come via some new links form some pretty heavy hitter bloggers at times. I can remember one in particular where the Instapundit linked me and it never showed up in Technorati or TTLB. The link is still there on the archive page for the week of 11/13/2005. Other larger sites ahve linked me more than one time, but I only see one link represented on the TTLB.

In the TTLB ecosystem I have never been able to get my “Top Posts” to display. I have also tried to change my URL on my account by following their instructions, but I have not seen the changes reflected after more than a month.

I have put in trouble tickets with both web sites, but I have never heard anything from either of them outside of an automated response to my ticket submission.

MLK Day

Monday, January 16th, 2006

Is the celebration about the man or the message that the man delivered? Who should ultimately get the credit for the work that Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. did? His title should give you a hint. God deserves the glory.

Are there any sore toes after those few sentences?

Update: Riehl World View says, “Were King alive today, I suspect he’d be more like Bill Cosby than Jesse Jackson.” I don’t believe he would be much like either of them, but I certainly agree he would likely be farther from Jesse Jackson rather than closer to him. The AP story that Riehl World View refers to titled Family Feud, New Book Threaten King Legacy shows some good examples of where credit is not always given where credit is due in the life and work of Martin Luther King, Jr. The following was quoted int eh AP story:

The Rev. Joseph Lowery, one of the SCLC’s co-founders, argues that it is that organization that has carried on King’s work.

“His organization is the chief proponent of his message and his work,” Lowery said. “You can’t reduce his legacy to brick and mortar.”

Neither can it be controlled or sold, Lowery added. King’s life, spirit and teachings, “all of these things belong to the people and the ages,” he said.

Well Rev. Lowery, I think these things belong to God. The people are reaping the benefit of what King did for God’s kingdom. There was one other quote that struck me as truth in the same AP story where U.S. Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga) was quoted as saying, “He was not a saint, he was just another human being.” when referring to King in an interview.

Open Trackback Monday - OzzPoll

Monday, January 16th, 2006

I just realized that my OzzPoll is not visible from pages displaying individual postings. Please proceed to HERE and take the OzzPoll if it is not already visible in your side bar. I need to work on getting this particular poll plug-in to display in line with WordPress or find another plug in. In the meantime I would be grateful for any suggestions on poll plug-ins for WP. My answer to this week’s OzzPoll will come later this week.

OTA

Mister Snitch! - A great blog that I just discovered today through my OTA participation. It is worth a visit. This is one good example that trackback/link exchanges can generate more than just a bunch of useless links between wannabe bloggers. This guy is much more established than me, but he is no where near the Jesus freak that I tend to be on my blog so I think I have a more uphill battle and building faithful readers.

Also providing quality linkage today are Freedom Folks, Don Surber, Committees of Correspondence, Imagine Kitty.

I normally would not link to Those Bastards just because the name of the blog rubs me the wrong way, but today I am linking. The King Bastard offered response to some interesting things New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin recently said. I found an article talking about New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin and his belief that the hurricanes might be God’s anger towards America. Check out the story at News Talk 810 WGY.

Chili Bowl - NASCAR Champ

Monday, January 16th, 2006

The title is correcet. I am going to out myself as a pretty serious Tony Stewart fan in this post. This is not because he is the reigning champion in the Nextel Cup Series, but because he is a real good driver. I try to follow NASCAR news in the off season to see how things are shaping up for the next season. Well, ONE of my favorite drivers, Tony was taken to the hospital after a crash at the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals. That’s right, Chili Bowl. For those hard core Southern STOCK Cars fans, this is a form of racing that for some reason has never caught on in the South. I like Tony Stewart a lot an I think he is one of the best drivers to ever race in Nextel Cup Series, formally know as the Winston Cup Series. It looks like his injuries from the Chili Bowl wreck are minor and should not affect his performance in Daytona in February.

By the way, I started another new category with this post. I started to call it “Sports” but decided that Racing is the only real sport anyway so why bother including anything else.

OzzPoll - What is the age of the Earth

Thursday, January 12th, 2006

I have created a new category called OzzPoll. This name should give a clue as to what you will find in the OzzPoll category. I will post a question each week in the sidebar. Your job is to select an choice and click the little vote button. After a week or so of voting, I will post the correct answer to the poll in a standard blog post where I will accept comments. That is where you get to challenge the correct answer. I realize this is not a scientific process. It is not meant to be. It is a process to generate discussion.

This week’s OzzPoll contains a pretty simple question. How old do you think the Earth is in years? You don’t have to be exact with your answer. Just answer as truthfully as you can based on your first reaction to the question. If you know the answer, well, keep quite and play along.

I will begin my new project by shamelessly leaching some traffic off of some of my OTA friends like Liberal Common Sense, TMH’s bacon Bits, customerservant.com, Quitely Making Noise, Conservative Cat, Don Surber, and Right Wing Nation. That’s all. Enjoy!

Pilot Eric Beard killed hauling frieght

Monday, January 9th, 2006

I have always said that I would be happy if I died at the controls of an airplane because I would be doing what I loved. I am not sure that Eric Beard ever said anything like that, but he did leave this world doing what he loved. He was not flying the famous RUSSIAN YAK 54 that he was best know for flying, but rather was hauling fright in a twin Piper in Washington State. There are some great links to stories about him and some links to stories about the crash on Russian Thunder.

Where’s the beef Cow?

Monday, January 9th, 2006

The beef from one determined cow might not hit the table. An AP story reported on the WFTV.com web site tells of a Cow That Escaped From Slaughterhouse May Be Granted Clemency. We will have to wait to see if any of those calling for her clemency want to put their money where their mouth is to save this heifer. The owner is willing to sell the cow to anyone who REALLY wants to save her.

Blue Angels to the Lowcountry

Monday, January 9th, 2006

It looks like the Blue Angels will be in the Lowcountry this spring. The Island Packet Online reports that the hot rod flying aces of the Navy and Marine Corps will strut their stuff in Charleston on April 8, 2006 and will pass up an invitation to visit the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort, SC this year. Also noted in the article was an announcement that the Air Force Thunderbirds will perform at Shaw AFB in Sumter, SC just two weeks later on April 23, 2006. How cool would that be to see the Thunderbirds and the Blue Angels in the same month? I might just have to give that a try this year.
