Cool Man CadenIt is time to bless you with a little multimedia fun again. I have been talking about Caden’s walking skills enough so it is time to share some more video footage. The pictures and video in this post were taken on Sunday and Monday of this week.

You can not tell it from the pictures, but Caden did have a pretty rough night Sunday night. He was very congested and even had a little fever. The congestion was enough to prompt a pediatrician visit on Monday. Caden was up several times needing to be suctioned on Sunday night. I can not remember the last time we suctioned so much within a 24 hour period.

Today was a fairly rough day for the little guy as well. He had to go in for blood work. The immunologist has still not cleared Caden for any live vaccines (MMR, chickenpox, etc.). Today Caden got a full immunology and endocrinology work up. That was about 8 tubes of blood taken during this visit. MUSC sends many of these tests out all over the country because some can only be done in places like the Mayo Clinic.

The cool shades were a big hit with Caden. He does not like the bright light in his eyes. He wore these shades for about an hour without pulling them off once. I went on a fairly long walk pulling Caden in the wagon while Riley rode his bike. Caden and Riley absolutely loved the high 70′s on MLK day.

Well enough with the updates. Here is the good stuff. I hope you enjoy!

I found your site from Callie’s site. It was the post where you are trying to teach the computer illiterate how to put images on the site. I am going to learn how to do that. I have printed off your info and will work on it.
Anyway, I too have a daughter who is just about your sons age. Her name is Madison and she is almost 25 months old. I had to laugh when I saw Caden walk because it is exactly like Madison. the way his legs are so far apart, the side to side motion and the arms and shoulders drawn up. You would think they learned from each other! Madison had her second open heart surgery in Dec 06. She goes back to the doctor on the 23rd of this month for a sedated echo to see the results. The echo done right after was great. the echo done two weeks later was not so great. (leakage at the valve) So we will see now that more than two months have gone by. Madison is also g-tube fed but thankfully we did not do the fundo with her. We did with our other daughter (non-VCFS but g-tube fed) and like you said the retching is awful. My take on it is that they are still refluxing but there is a block (the fundo) that doesn’t let it come up so it is like dry heaves! It feels awful and does horrible things to them. My take on the secretions is that for some reason even when they can swallow some things, that stuff just doesn’t go down and then it sits there and gurguls until it chokes them. My daughter with the fundo is 4 1/2, eats by mouth, but still cannot handle secretions very well.
Well it is late tonight but I will get back to your site and catch up on Caden as well as his big brother.
Come by if you get a chance and meet Madison.
    Take care,
    Pam and Madison
